Dear USA Boxing coaches and officials,

Since Safe Sport launched their new website earlier this month, we have been inundated with phone calls from our members.

The most problematic area right now is that we have not been able to access accurate data from the Safe Sport website – and this means we don’t get your USA Boxing profiles updated in a timely manner, which means you don’t get to coach or officiate – through no fault of your own.

We are very much aware of this problem and have notified Safe Sport.  They are working on fixing the issue.  At this point, we are asking for your patience as this is something that is out of our control.

The sheer volume of phone calls we receive about Safe Sport means that our members get voicemail a lot more than normal, and it takes us longer to call you back.  We do apologize for that.  We realize it’s frustrating; it’s frustrating for us as well.

Things to remember:

  • You must complete 3 sections
  1. Sexual Misconduct Awareness Education
  2. Mandatory Reporting
  3. Emotional and Physical Misconduct
  • Once complete, your USA Boxing account is not automatically updated (at this point in time).  Give us a couple of days to get the certification into your account.
  • If you have completed all 3 sections and it’s been more than 3 days, please call us.  If you give us your Safe Sport password, we can log in as you and look it up.

Thank you for your patience and understanding; we are doing our best to get this resolved.

We strongly believe in the Safe Sport training program and give our full support.  We all need to do what we can to help identify predators and stop them before they hurt someone.  Please don’t let the problems with their website detract from the message and goal of the program.

USA Boxing

We’d like to clarify and update you on a few things regarding athlete physicals.

  1. Physicals are good for one year from the date they were given.  For example, if a boxer received a physical on September 6, 2017, that physical will be good until September 5, 2018.
  1. Physicals may now be signed by a Physician’s Assistant or a Nurse Practitioner, except in those states where the State Athletic Commission requires a doctor’s signature.
  1. As a reminder, it is our preference that boxers use the physical exam form that we provide on our website, but it is not mandatory at this time.  Other forms are acceptable.

Attention !!! All coaches must attend the coaches meeting at each event to obtain their credentials to work the athletes corner. Coaches must present their red passbook, Showing their registration and certification for 2017 !!!!!!!!!ATTENTION !!!!!!!!!! ALL ATHLETES NEED A YEARLY PHYSICAL TO BE ABLE TO BOX Please fold and staple to the back inside cover of your passbook.

As we hope you’re aware by now, all boxers are required to get a sports physical and show proof of that physical before they can box.  This requirement was implemented in June of 2016.
We’ve had a lot of questions regarding how long an athlete physical is good for and how soon boxers need to get another one for 2017.
After much discussion, we have decided that if a boxer had a physical exam in 2016, regardless of what month, they do NOT need to have another physical until they register for 2018.
For anyone registering new in 2017, they will of course need to get a physical before they can box, and their physical will be good for 13 months from the date they received it.  So, if they got their physical in February 2017, they will need another one in March of 2018.
We are continuing to explore options as to how proof of a physical exam is shown – either by keeping the paperwork in the passbook, or indicating it on the membership card.  For right now, boxers MUST keep a copy of their physical in their passbooks!  Do not lose it and do not forget it!
If you have any questions, you may send an email to [email protected].
